<p>The Performing Arts Education Workshops, by OrlandoFest, are designed to encourage middle, junior high and high school music performance groups to excel by providing an inspiring, fun and educational performance experience. Our <strong>TOTALLY CUSTOMIZED</strong></em> workshops focus on reinforcing important concepts that help fine-tune techniques that will guide students toward excellence in their performance. Since our customized educational workshops are <strong>NEVER THE SAME</strong>, our unique hands-on sessions will enrich the learning experience for the entire ensemble, individual musician, and the director. </p>
<p>Directors choose the specific areas of focus for their students in advance of the workshop, from preparation and skill-development to rehearsing and performing. <p><strong>The Choir spent the morning with Ms. Michelle Mailhot, who directed the ensemble in various techniques on improving the students tone, pitch, phrasing, breathing and overall singing. While the Band spent the morning with Mr. Jarritt Sheel, who worked on enhancing the students performance technique to prepare them for future performances. <p>Michael Parks recently retired from a 35 year career with the  Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, serving as a Junior High and High School Band Director, Coordinator of Instrumental Music, and finally, as District Music Supervisor. Mr. Parks is active as a guest conductor/clinician for honors bands throughout Florida and the Southeast United States, as an adjudicator for the Florida Orchestra Association, and has served as a Florida All-State Band Conductor in 1995 and 2001. Professional organizations include Phi Beta Mu International Band Directors Fraternity, Florida Bandmasters Association and the Florida Orchestra Association. </p>
<p>According to Mike Parks, OrlandoFest’s New Festival Director, “I’m very excited about joining OrlandoFest. It (OrlandoFest) is the quality music festival that directors and students want to experience when traveling for performance evaluations and competition!” Mike looks forward to a successful 2nd career providing quality musical and educational experiences for students, music teachers and parents. He strongly believes that the Arts provide the cohesive center that unites all learning and creates the ‘whole child’ that is so strongly desired during this time of educational reform. </p>

Stewart Middle School. Under the direction of Mr. Scott Leahy, the group from Zephyrhills, Florida, performed several great pieces on its way to capturing the weekend&#8217;s top honors!</p>
<p>With a fantastic conclusion to the first year of OrlandoFest, we want to extend our congratulations to all our competing ensembles that performed this weekend. We also want to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to each student, director, and the parents and chaperones for taking part in OrlandoFest. <p>Stepping off our final weekend of festival competition this year, the Ridgefield Memorial High School Marching Band conducted their parade march at <a href="http://universalorlando.com">Universal Studios® Florida</a> today. Under the direction of Mr. Matt Tracey, the Marching Royals turned in an amazing performance. Hailing from Ridgefield, New Jersey, the band will also compete with their jazz and percussion ensembles, while attending OrlandoFest.</p>

Under the direction of Ms. Natalia Douris, the ensemble from Palm City, Florida performed beautifully to take home top honors. In the Concert Band Division, St. Mary&#8217;s Middle School, from St. Mary&#8217;s, Georgia, won top honors in Concert Band. Under the direction of Ms. Holly Cottrell, the members of St. Mary&#8217;s Concert Band conducted a great performance to win Grand Champion honors.</p>
